Orthodontics for Adults
Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. For some adults, this may be the first time they have been able to afford orthodontics. One out of every five patients in braces is over 21. Adult treatment can sometimes be more difficult than children, but not for most adults. For the more complicated cases, jaw surgery can be required. This is due to the fact that adult jaws are no longer growing. Some adults may have experienced some breakdown or loss of teeth and the bone that supports the teeth. In these particular cases, periodontal treatment may be necessary before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable. We will work with your family dentist and bring in other specialists if needed. Even with these challenges, orthodontics can usually deliver significant improvements to the fit and look of your teeth.
